Understanding Eating Disorder Care: An Introduction for Parents & Caregivers
- Are you navigating a recent eating disorder diagnosis for your child or teen?
- Are you feeling overwhelmed and unsure where to start?
- Do you have a new treatment team and wanting to understand more about the path you have started?
Our parent informational group is designed to help parents and caregivers gain a clear understanding of what to expect and how to support their child in eating disorder treatment.
In these four 90-minute sessions, you’ll learn:
- What to expect in each phase of treatment
- The critical role parents play in recovery from an Family Based Treatment (FBT) informed approach
- Practical tips for getting started and supporting your child at home
- Answers to common questions and concerns
Week 1: Introduction to Eating Disorders and Support
Week 2: “Taking the Reigns” How to Implement Support
Week 3: Weight, Exercise, and Medical Considerations
Week 4: Sustaining Recovery
Led by a facilitator experienced in treating children and teens, this session provides a supportive environment and resources to help you take the next step with confidence.
Who it’s for:
Parents and primary caregivers of children, teens and young adults recently diagnosed with an eating disorder.
Note: This group series is informational and not a therapy or support group, though resources for ongoing support will be provided.
Fees:
$250 total for the 4 group series.
This is an educational group for caregivers and is not billable through insurance.
Full payment is due at registration.
When:
Wednesdays: May 13, May 20th, May 27th and June 1st
This group will meet in the evening 5:30- 7:00p for 4 sessions.

What to expect:
- Each group session will include education, resources and discussion with an eating disorders dietitian and other parents who have a child with an eating disorder.
- Annie Penrose, M.Ed., RD, LDN will lead this group in May and June.
