What Makes an Eating Disorder Dietitian Different?
Eating disorders are bio-psycho-social-somatic illnesses, meaning they involve the body, the mind, relationships, society, and lived experience all at once. An eating disorder dietitian does far more than create a meal plan. We work to understand the full context of your relationship with food: the history behind it, the thoughts and feelings woven into it, your body’s response to it, and the barriers that make change feel so difficult. Our approach is trauma-informed, meaning we recognize that food and body struggles are often connected to deeper experiences, and we meet you where you are without judgment.
Every dietitian at our practice has extensive, specialized experience in the treatment of eating disorders. Many hold advanced credentials, including the Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS) designation through the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp). As a practice, we regularly offer and pursue continuing education to stay at the forefront of evidence-based care for eating disorders.
Who We Treat
Our disordered eating dietitians work with clients across the full spectrum of eating disorder diagnoses and presentations, including:
- Anorexia Nervosa (AN)
- Bulimia Nervosa (BN)
- Binge Eating Disorder (BED)
- Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)
- Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders (OSFED)
- Orthorexia and rigid, rule-based eating
- Chronic dieting and diet cycling
- Compulsive and emotional eating that interferes with your well being
- Disordered eating without a formal diagnosis
- Eating disorders co-occurring with anxiety, OCD, trauma, substance use disorder or other mental health conditions
Our Approach: Trauma-Informed, Weight-Inclusive, Recovery-Focused
We practice from a weight-inclusive, non-diet framework. This means we do not use weight loss as a treatment goal, and we reject the idea that any body size is inherently healthier or more deserving of care than another. Our work is grounded in the belief that full recovery is possible, and that every person deserves to experience joy, freedom, and ease in their relationship with food and their body.
We collaborate closely with therapists, physicians, psychiatrists, and other members of your treatment team to ensure your care is coordinated and comprehensive. Whether you are stepping down from a higher level of care or just beginning to seek help, our eating disorder dietitians will meet you exactly where you are and walk alongside you on the path to recovery.
